Side by Side Theatre Company, Stourbridge gives learning disabled people the opportunity to explore their potential through professional guidance in the performing arts, encouraging mental and physical well being through the techniques taught in creating exciting and innovative theatre productions.
Performance Skills include: Creativity, characterisation, stage presence, role play, mime, physical theatre, film making, podcasting etc.
Life Skills include: vocal clarity, improved vocabulary, improved posture, concentration, improved memory, group co-operation, taking on challenges, decision making, planning ahead and self confidence.
Established in 1997, the company have won numerous awards for their very professional and unique performances. They constantly push back the boundaries and challenge the perception of learning disability. They have performed to great acclaim in many places throughout the UK, including many times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They have also taken productions to Sweden and Prague.
In 2013 they were awarded The Queen's award for voluntary service. In the same year they were chosen by the Royal Shakespeare Company to be part of their Open stages project. They performed at the Courtyard Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon. In 2015 they were chosen for the second time to be part of the project and performed at the RSC Swan theatre in June of that year.
Side by Side put on a major production at Stourbridge Town Hall, in June, every year, as well as performances at the SideSpace. They enter theatre festivals and go on tour.

Based in the beautifully renovated St John's church, The SideSpace is owned by Side by Side Theatre Company and has excellent facilities and atmosphere to give an enriching space for members to discover their potential through all genres of the performing arts.
Eligibility Notes:
Students need to have a genuine interest in the subject chosen and an enthusiasm to learn.
Referral Notes:
Actors need to have had some previous training or experience in Performing Arts for the Monday and Tuesday sessions.
Wednesday sessions are for members to develop their performing arts skills.
Thursday morning music sessions explore how to create music with percussion and wind instruments and through singing
Thursday afternoon classes are for new comers and those who need extra help in developing their performing art skills,
Thursday evening is for creating Show Dances, for performance.
Friday is to explore the possibilities of using Digital Media.
