Did you know that a dedicated team of volunteers are out every Wednesday and Thursday between 10.00am and 3.00pm helping to keep our local nature reserves and countryside around Kidderminster and Stourport sites looking good?
Wyre Forest District Council’s Countryside Service has been running a practical conservation group for the last thirty years and is keen to encourage more people to come along to the volunteer days.
We meet twice a week and tend to work at a different nature reserve every week, so over time you will have a chance to work on all 17 nature reserves throughout the district.
What do we do?
Our volunteers can be helping with practical management such as keeping our heathlands open, coppicing to create woodland glades, keeping our livestock fences in good order, building new steps and paths to improve access for all and working on our wetlands.
Do I need any previous experience?
Not at all, we welcome everyone, whether they have done this sort of work before or not.
When do the volunteers meet?
We meet every Wednesday and Thursday and work from 10.00am until 3.00pm with breaks for lunch etc. You don’t have to stay all day, we are grateful for any time you are able to give whether it’s a morning, an afternoon or all day.
Please note that our sessions take place in the countryside where there are no toilet facilities or buildings for shelter. Please wear appropriate clothing - see below.
Do I need to bring anything?
You will need to bring a packed lunch and drink, wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, bring waterproof clothing in case of wet weather and wear steel toe capped boots (or strong walking boots) and a pair of gloves.
How do I find out more?
If you are interested in helping out, we’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to call 01562 732972 to speak to one of the Rangers or email rangers@wyreforestdc.gov.uk
