Hobbies and Interests
I am a medical historian and author. I deliver presentations on the history of healthcare, medicine, surgery and diseases throughout history (from prehistory age to modern day) for a variety of audiences, groups and societies. Presentations are accompanied by an appropriate display of objects.
My published books include: "Ouch! The history of arrow wound treatment", "The Diggum Uppers: Body Snatching and Grave Robbing in the Black Country", "Quacks and Cures: Quack Doctors and Folk Healing of the Black Country" and "Disease and Illness in the Black Country. A History : Volume 1: Medieval to Early Modern" and "Buboes, Boils and Bellyaches: Essays on Health and Disease in the Black Country".
I have also appeared in a number of documentaries. Most recently,: "Mystic Britain" (Smithsonian Channel) and "The Great Plague" and "The Black Death"(Channel 5)

The History of Arrow Wound Treatment" (2022) and "“Nothing reigns here but Want and Disease, Death and Desolation!”: The Black Country During The 1832 Cholera Pandemic" (2023). I have been a public speaker for over 20 years, and deliver a range talks and presentations on the history of medicine, surgery and disease, frequently accompanied by a range of artifacts. I also specialise in the medical history of the Black Country. I present to a range of audiences from social societies to specialist groups.
