The Red House Glass Cone lies in the heart of the Stourbridge Glass Quarter. It was built around 1790 and used for the manufacture of glass until 1936. It is now one of only four cones left in the UK and one of the most complete glass cone sites in Europe. The cone itself is huge, reaching 100ft into the sky. The site has remained virtually unaltered and therefore provides a fascinating insight into the history and tradition of glassmaking. The Cone structure has recently undergone restoration works and officially re opened November 2024.
We offer free family trails, craft sessions, a variety of talks, guided tours and glass fusing. Please check Social Media and Ticket Source for What's On and for pre bookable events.
We are also home to a number of Craft Studios and on site cafe Heavenly Baking at The Cone - the perfect place to stop for a cuppa and piece of cake while enjoying the surroundings Drop by to watch artists at work, have a go or treat yourself to a handmade and unique item. As the studios are independently run, if there's someone special you'd like to see, please check with them direct for opening hours.
