Universal Credit benefit applications:

If you are applying for Universal Credit for the first time and need help with the application form, our Help to Claim advisers can help you with the early stages of your Universal Credit claim. You can talk to them on the phone or online by chat.  

The adviser can only help you:

  • work out if you can get Universal Credit
  • fill in the Universal Credit application 
  • prepare for your first Jobcentre appointment 
  • check your first payment is correct

You can contact an adviser through our free Help to Claim phone service. Advisers are available 8.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday:0800 144 8 444

Ask for a translator if you need to get advice in a different language. 

Relay UK - if you can't hear or speak on the phone, you can type what you want to say: 18001 then 0800 144 8 444.

Chat on line: You can also chat with an adviser online about your Universal Credit application. Chat is usually available 8.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday. It's not available on public holidays. If you can’t see a chat button, it means no advisers are available. Try again later or call our phone line.

Call our local contact centre who will be able to assist you and if needed, book an appointment for you with an advisor/caseworker (see further down for how to get in contact with our local contact centre).

Go to at our local website Citizens Advice Dudley and Wolverhampton and at the top of the page go to the ‘Get Advice’ tab which will show you how best to contact us dependent on your advice issue.

In addition, look at our ‘Services’ tab to see if one of our specially funded contracts can help you even more. You will see if you are eligible for any of these specific funded contracts when you click on any of them on the left hand side.
