13 October 2025. As part of Dudley History Festival we welcome Chris Baker with his talk titled An Ecclesiastical Affair - Pensnett. A true story from 1870, about the Victorian Black Country parish of Pensnett where the errant clergyman, Vicar of St Mark's, had a flirtation with a pupil teacher at the local school, that led to scandal in the village, a clergy discipline trial, and a series of anonymous broadsheets circulating in the village making all sorts of accusations about the Vicar and members of St Mark's congregation, and a nationally reported libel trial.
