Black Country Society
The aims of the Society are 'to foster interest in the past, present and future of the Black Country with regard to historical, social and environmental matters; to promote a high standard of planning and environmental design, and to secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic interest in the Black Country.
Monthly meetings include slides, talks, raffle and questions. These take place at Bilston Town Hall. We also produce a quarterly publication 'The Blackcountryman' and a variety of other local history publications. Walks and outings are arranged in the Summer months. An annual day school is usually organised in partnership with the University of Birmingham - with Interesting speakers on a range of Black Country subjects. A recent development has been the Virtual Heritage Group, which hosts a monthly presentation via zoom. This is available free of charge to both members and non-members. As well as through social media, members are kept up-dated about BCS events - and those being hosted by other local organisations - via the monthly email newsletter: The Black Country Bulletin.
