Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health
Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health is influenced by various factors to support children to develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them in their growing years and beyond. Things that can help with emotional wellbeing include being in good physical health (having a healthy diet, getting regular exercise and good sleep routine) and having time and freedom to play, feeling loved, trusted, understood, valued and safe. Advice is available from a number of online resources as well as from your child’s school or nursey and universal services. If you are concerned about your child’s emotional wellbeing or mental health, there are dedicated services offering support. These are illustrated using the Thrive Framework to support access to the right service at the right time. Children and Young People with poor Mental Health affecting their function in everyday life can be referred to the Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental health Services (CAMHS) [R2] this referral is done via the family GP. The GP will talk to you or your child to understand how they are feeling and signpost to the most appropriate support.
Child And Adolescent Mental Health Community Services (CAMHS)
Severe mental illness is rare in children and young people but mental health problems are common and have a significant effect on them as individuals, their potential and their families. The most effective approach to supporting children and families involves health, social care and education working in partnership.
We offer a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary service specialising in the assessment and treatment of moderate to severe mental health difficulties that children and young people experience. We aim to:
- Provide specialist assessment and treatments in accordance with best practice and NICE recommendations
- Provide appropriate information for young people and their families and for other agencies, in accordance with confidentiality and consent to share protocols
- Consultation, liaison and training for universal and targeted services, including professional carers
- Assessments and treatments in centres that are equipped, family-friendly, non-stigmatising and culturally competent.
- The service welcomes children, young people and their families’ views on service development
