How do I refer / access the service?

People registered with a GP in the Dudley area must be referred in by their GP or by a specialist community healthcare professional.

If you are already a patient of the Dudley wheelchair service you can call us and we will accept this as a self-referral; in some cases we need to get more information from your GP or therapist.

What happens next?

Once you have been referred, the service will review the referral and will either:

  • Issue equipment directly to you
  • Speak to you or your therapist to get more advice and issue some equipment
  • Ask you to attend the clinic for an assessment appointment
  • Discuss your needs and prescribe equipment

Following this we will then:

  • Invite you to attend a wheelchair handover appointment or supply directly to you
  • Provide an advice service to our wheelchair users to answer any queries
  • If you call for a repair or request maintenance Ross Care will attend your home, school or place of work to undertake a repair or maintain your equipment. They may need to issue a temporary loan chair if the chair requires further work in the workshop or we need to order special parts.

How much does it cost?

The provision of wheelchairs is free on the NHS as long as you meet the criteria.

You can top up using the Personal Wheelchair Budget (previously known as the voucher scheme).
