The Role of a Case Officer
Purpose of the Role
To take an active role in all aspects of casework for pupils undergoing, or who may undergo, a Statutory Assessment of Special Educational Needs/Education Health and Care Plans and to ensure adherence to the statutory process and timescales required.
- Actively promote Dudley’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults at a level appropriate to this role and setting.
- Complete administrative tasks relating to the Statutory Assessment process for pupils with special educational needs and within the statutory timescales.
- Undertake regular and detailed contact with parents, schools, Education Officers and SEN Service Teams and Health and Social Services colleagues to ensure individual cases are successfully resolved.
- Monitor educational outcomes for SEN pupils through the Annual Review process.
- support schools and settings by providing advice and guidance on the statutory assessment processes.
- Ensure the efficient use of Local Authority resources.
- Support the promotion of equal opportunities and ensure the implementation of the Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Liaison with colleagues from a range of agencies on matters relating to special educational needs and the needs of individual pupils.
- Managing casework throughout the statutory assessment process from first referral to the completion of the process.
- Writing Education Health and Care Plans and amending existing EHCPs as required.
- Contribute to panel decisions on provision and placement and preparing reports /papers for a range of panels as required.
- Attending Annual, Interim and emergency Reviews as appropriate and within capacity.
- Working in partnership with parents, children and young people, and schools to ensure pupils needs are met appropriately, including those pupils at risk of exclusion.
- Preparing for SEN Tribunals as required.
- Monitoring the use of funding within schools for pupils who have Education Health and Care Plans.
- Following and contributing to Child Protection procedures as appropriate.
- Promote close working partnerships with children, families and young people and effect good working relationships with colleagues in education, health and social care, the Voluntary and Community Sector, SENDIASS and Dudley’s Parent Carer Forum.
