21 October 2025. As part of Dudley History Festival we welcome Brendan Clifford with his talk titled David Cox, Artist of Birmingham and the Black Country.
Brendan was born and bred in the Black Country. He has pursued his interest in the Black Country and published a book, “Black by Day, Red by Night, The Black Country, 500 years in 50 voices” in 2022. He is especially interested in art connected to the Black Country. Artist David Cox (1783 – 1859) was born in the Deritend area of Birmingham and lived his last years in Harborne. The talk introduces David Cox’s life and locates his increased skill and accomplishment in his artistic practice, including several representations of Dudley.
