Job Title:
Yoga Teacher
Kay Morris is a qualified BWY teacher. The British Wheel of Yoga is the governing body for Yoga in Great Britain, endorsed by the Sports Council (Sport England) and internationally recognised for its safe and thorough teaching of yoga.
About Hatha Yoga
- Hatha Yoga promotes balance in the body and mind through a combination of synchronised posture and focused breath work. The sessions will consist of a grounding period of 5 minutes, followed by the practice of physical Yoga postures for approximately 45 minutes followed by a relaxation period of approximately 10 minutes.
- Yoga is believed to have a calming effect on the nervous system; balancing the mind body and emotions. It is thought by some practitioners to prevent specific diseases by keeping life energy flowing. Yoga has been used to lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve co-ordination, flexibility, concentration, sleep and digestion.
- Yoga helps to develop discipline. This comes from making the time on a regular basis to either go to Yoga classes, or practice yoga at home. However, there is a subtler level of discipline that can be achieved simply by being mindful of the quality of your breath and the deeper effects that specific Yoga postures have on your body.
Yoga is quite different from other forms of exercise; it really is a journey of conscious exploration. The process of listening and remembering how your body responds to various things helps you to establish that important relationship with your body. It is often the case that parts of our bodies become dysfunctional this can be expressed by physical pain or coldness and stiffness. Energetically, it is sometimes difficult to focus on a given area of the body; through discipline we can educate our minds and bodies to renew the focus of our energy; we can become subtler towards feeling and recognising the points of resistance within our body as we work within various postures. We can use our breath to help overcome stiffness and dysfunctional pain in the body, Yoga by its very nature helps us to develop discipline, it gives us a quiet confidence and knowledge about our own capacity that is not restricted by the boundaries we may have falsely believed were there!
Historically the word Hatha comes from combining the two Sanskrit terms "ha" meaning sun and "tha" meaning moon. Yoga literally translates as yoke or the joining of two things together. Hatha yoga is a practice that brings about balance between the sun (masculine, active) energy with the moon (feminine, passive) energy thus producing balance and greater power in an individual. It is also about replacing negative destructive energy within the body with positive productive energy to promote health and well being.
Preparation
- Loose fitting clothing
- A blanket to use during relaxation (optional)
- Bottle of drinking water
Avoid eating a heavy meal prior to session.
