Riverside House is an ambitious project. Situated on a former 19th century Iron Masters estate that had fallen into dereliction, comprising around 4 acres of land, delipidated greenhouses and cold frames and a grade 2 listed building. We are situated between the River Stour and the Stourbridge Canal, a short walk from Stourbridge town centre.
Riverside House is a multitude of projects within projects, with the overarching aim to develop a place that inspires and encourages health and wellbeing in its broadest form, encompassing crafts, food, heritage, ecology and arts.
Since 2015 it has been transformed into a haven for people to explore the natural environment through sensitive stewardship of the wildlife and ecology, in addition to learning a variety of new practical and social skills through the ongoing development of the site and by working alongside our dedicated team of volunteers. In addition, we also offer creative workshops such as feltmaking and textiles, print making, stained glass and willow weaving, all in an accessible and inclusive environment.
Initially, we have focused provision for people with learning disabilities and autism. Alongside our dedicated volunteers/ staff, they have worked tirelessly to develop the land, constructing the new buildings and helping to care for the wildlife and ecological characteristics of the site.
In 2020 we expanded our provision, developing a suite of workshops for people referred to us via Integrated Plus, the local social prescribing service. Since then we have welcomed back a large number of social prescribing service users each year which has become part of our ongoing offer to engage and inspire our local community and beyond.
