Ren Shin Kan Iaido Club
Ren Shin Kan Iaido Club practices the art of Japanese Swordsmanship, called Iaido. We practice Zen Ken Ren Iaido and Muso Shinden Ryu. We are members of the British Kendo Association and the European Kendo Federation.
We are a serious, hard-working dojo. Our members endeavour to be the best that they can be. As a result of this attitude, pure hard work, and determination, we have produced members who have won a European gold medal and a European bronze medal. UK National Champions, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medalists.
What is Iaido
Iaido is a non-contact sword art that uses set Kata to develop the individual's sword skills. There is no physical contact in Iaido, so nobody is going to hit you! It is practiced by all ages (over 18s in our club) and both sexes. Extremely high levels of attention to detail are required to perform the kata correctly, which increase as you progress through the grade system. You can compete against others if you wish; it is an art where males and females can compete with each other on a level playing field.
Is Iaido for you
The benefits of practicing Iaido include improving your power of concentration, mental focus, and memory. There are improvements to core strength, leg strength, breathing, and coordination. The focus required to train frees your mind of the stresses of the working day and gives you respite from the pressure of modern life. The biggest benefit is being able to rise to the challenge that this art demands. Give it a try. We treat everybody with respect, the hardest thing is making the first step and coming to class.
