The Mencap Training Academy offers supported internships across the Black Country at 5 Asda Superstores. In Dudley, they work with Asda Dudley, Merry Hill Centre, Brierley Hill, West Midlands, DY5 1QL
Young people with an EHCP aged 17-24 who want to find a job can apply to enrol on this programme that runs from September to July.
During their time on programme, learners will complete a range of work experience rotations at the Asda stores including:
Working on the tills
Stock management
In the dot-com team, packing online orders
In the on-site cafe
Learners are supported in these rotations by a Mencap skills coach who will help them to learn the different tasks they will need to do at the store.
Learners will also complete classroom learning at the stores at the beginning and end of the day where they will learn more about the skills and behaviours needed for employment.
The aim of the programme is to get a paid job, either with Asda or with another employer by using the skills and experiences gained from the work experience.
