Job Title:
Laughter Yoga Teacher and Laughter Ambassador
In Laughter Yoga sessions, participants laugh for no reason from the joy within themselves rather than through jokes, humour or comedy, releasing their inner child. It elevates mood, reduces stress, energises, improves the immune system and is a great connector of people in a caring and sharing manner.
I run monthly Laughter Yoga sessions at Wordsley Community Centre, The Green, Wordsley, Stourbridge, DY8 5BN and these will generally take place on the 2nd Monday of the month from 7.00pm. The cost to attend this 1-hour session is £6.00 per person.
Think about how spontaneous laughter is to children. They don’t need a reason to laugh - they just do it. Giggles, chortles, snortles, belly laughs, uncontrollable laughter that goes on and on. As adults there is no reason why we cannot do this too. This is what we do in Laughter Yoga as it is unconditional laughter that comes from the heart and doesn’t need humour, jokes and comedy. I have run Laughter Yoga sessions where the shear mention that we are going to laugh has set people off. How good is that!
It does have a structure with warm up exercises as it is an aerobic and cardiovascular exercise. Participants need to be aware if they suffer certain medical conditions it might not be suitable for them. I have attached a form that identifies these. The structure of a sessions starts with a few gentle exercises - hand clapping and deep breathing and then bringing in the laughter exercises. There is hand-clapping between laughter exercises and the ‘yoga’ element of the session is the sequences of deep breathing in between exercises. Then the process is repeated with a different laughter exercise for as long as the session lasts, finishing with a grounding relaxation.
I also run sessions via Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.00pm every week. These run for 20 to 30 minutes and include many of my regular participants who have found the continuing availability to practice has helped their wellbeing enormously throughout these difficult time. The sessions are open for people to join, please contact me for the current Zoom link and the password to gain entry.
The Zoom sessions are free for people to participate and I am always grateful to receive donations between £3 and £5 via https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/merriemaggie
