Friends of Wollescote Park (FOWP) is a lively and friendly group of volunteers, we are all people from the local community that care passionately about "Wollescote Park" (also known as Stevens Park or Lye park) and there is no membership fee to join. We have a Friends of Wollescote Park Facebook page.
We undertake projects that protect the park as a precious green space, we care about park's wildlife, and support the park is a welcoming place for exercise, leisure or relaxation for all users. We believe our park should be an inclusive space for all. We open the Sensory Garden, Community Pop-up café in the park regularly throughout the summer (mostly Friday Mornings) and serve delicious homemade cake and hot drinks.
The group meets every Tuesday morning between 10:00 until 12:00 in the Sensory garden (adjacent to the tennis courts), for gardening; socialising and litter picks. Tools are provided as well as a FOWP T-shirt.
On a Friday morning (coinciding with Pop-Café mornings) between 10.00am-12.00, we welcome people to join us for petanque (French Boules); its free to come along, all tuition and equipment provided. Personally, I can highly recommend the game as great way to socialise, to gently exercise and meet new people.
As well as these regular meet ups, FOWP also organises community events to include: "Bark in the Park" a family fun dog show, Easter Scavenger hunt, plant sales, sponsored walks and a fabulous Christmas "Meet Santa" where children have the opportunity to receive a gift from Santa in the historic Wollescote Hall by the side of an inglenook fireplace.
If you'd like to become involved, please contact us or alternatively drop-in at a session or attend an open meeting.
The group meets every second Tuesday of every month at 6.30pm to discuss any matters relating to Wollescote Park. These meetings are (generally) held at the Sons of Rest Room, at Wollescote Hall.
