What the Course Covers

This qualification builds on your existing Level 1 foundation. It transitions you from basic phrases to intermediate fluency, allowing you to participate in longer, more detailed, and more varied conversations. The curriculum is split into three mandatory modules based on real-world scenarios.

Detailed Signature Units

  • Unit BSL201 – BSL Receptive Skills: Develop your ability to understand extended sign language. You will learn to extract information, spot subtle context changes, and follow a signed narrative delivered at normal speed by different native signers.

  • Unit BSL202 – BSL Productive Skills: Focus on your expressive signing. You will learn how to structure clear, coherent narratives, develop your vocabulary, use correct facial expressions (non-manual features), and utilize the signing space effectively.

  • Unit BSL203 – BSL Conversational Skills: Master the art of natural, two-way communication. You will practice real-time discussions, learning how to interrupt politely, ask for clarification, give feedback, and maintain the flow of a conversation.

Core Vocabulary Themes

To ensure practical fluency, all three units are taught through four essential life themes:

  1. Everyday Life: Discussing routines, family structures, occupations, and descriptions of people.

  2. Eating and Drinking: Navigating restaurants, discussing nutrition, food preferences, and cooking.

  3. Spending and Shopping: Handling money transactions, shopping experiences, consumer choices, and local services.

  4. Travel and Holidays: Describing journeys, booking accommodations, holiday activities, and transport systems.

Prerequisite

  • Requirement: Level 1 BSL qualification or relevant experience is necessary.

Official Signature Exam Format

To achieve your full Certificate, you will complete three practical assessments. All Signature registration and examination fees are fully included in your course price.
