Designed specifically for absolute beginners, this introductory 10 week module focuses on the first unit of the Level 1 qualification (BSL101). You will learn how to communicate with Deaf individuals using basic, everyday sign language in a supportive online environment.

What You Will Learn

This course covers the foundational vocabulary and grammatical structures required to progress toward your official Signature certification. Over the 10 weeks, you will master:

  • Meeting People: Master essential greetings, polite expressions, and the skills needed to introduce yourself and others.

  • Basic Conversational Skills: Learn how to exchange simple personal information, including numbers, interests, weather, and daily routines.

  • Non-Manual Features (NMF): Understand how to use facial expressions, body language, and head movements to give your signs grammatical meaning.

  • Deaf Awareness: Gain a basic understanding of Deaf culture, community etiquette, and communication best practices.

If you choose to continue your studies to achieve the full qualification, you can seamlessly transition into our Level 1 continuation classes.
