Dementia Cafe - Sedgley

Dementia Support

The dementia café is an informal, friendly meeting for people living with dementia and their family/friends/carers to attend together.

We have Alzheimer’s Society staff and trained volunteers on hand, and a dementia advisor, who is available for longer chats if you need support or have a question.

We provide refreshments, we have a range of dementia friendly activities (small jig-saws, word games) so there is always something to occupy you.

Other organisations come to visit to explain their services, and we sometimes have music. We aren’t an entertainment group as such, but we know how stimulating and uplifting music can be for people. We currently have around 20 people and it’s a lovely, relaxed group.

Preferably we will speak with you before the café, as we need to check that the group is suitable for you, that you live in the right catchment area and to know if anyone has any support needs we need to be aware of. If we can arrange a call beforehand, that would be ideal.

Notes:

Monthly support group for people living with dementia and their family/friends/carers. Informal and friendly space to meet other people in a similar situation. Refreshments free.

VENUE: People often mix it up with the health centre, which is the first large building you come to on the road. Keep going just a short distance and you will see a car park, turn to the right, there is a narrow road. The community centre is immediately on your left and has a yellow barrier (it will be open) which leads the way to the car park.

The view as you turn right at the end of the road, the Community Centre on left, health centre on the right. Turn into the car park, indicated by the yellow barrier.

Eligibility Notes:

Living with dementia, cognitive impairment or caring for someone with dementia. The person with dementia needs someone with them to support (friend/family/carer) as we cannot offer individual care. A person with dementia may come alone if they feel confident and able to travel without assistance and are still independent.

Referral Notes:

People can refer themselves after receiving a diagnosis of dementia.
