Communities
Are you a community group based in the Black Country who would like to have a go at something creative?
Do you need support developing your creative idea with your local community?
Creative Black Country (CBC) work with communities in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton to discover creative opportunities and develop new projects with local people in the places where they live.
CBC's Creative Communities strand is about supporting communities to co-create new work with us that is relevant, authentic and genuinely participatory for people living in the Black Country. We also offer support to help communities to develop their skills and confidence in accessing and developing creative and cultural activities*.
We are not prescriptive about what creative activity you do; you can try out a new craft skill, set up a choir, start a garden gallery with your neighbours, produce a set of how-to guides and virtual workshops, create a photography exhibition online or a creative writing and storytelling group - all the ideas come from you. We welcome ideas that help people get creative whilst remaining socially distanced during the current pandemic.
What is important to us is that you are involved in the design and delivery of the project, and that it reaches people who may not normally have this kind of creative opportunity.
* Our definition of creative and cultural activity is really broad, and includes any opportunities for local people to explore their creativity through; performing arts, dance, theatre, music, visual arts, painting, sculpture, photography, design, crafts, heritage, museums, literature, poetry, storytelling, film and digital media.
How CBC's Creative Communities programme can support you....
- We will connect you with a Creative Adviser who can offer advice on how to get your project started and connect you with other local community groups, organisations, creatives and artists.
- We can offer advice on how to promote your project and activity to engage audiences in your area
- We can connect you with your local voluntary sector council's Development Worker ('DCVS' in Dudley, ‘SCVO’ in Sandwell, ‘WVSC’ in Wolverhampton or ‘One Walsall’ in Walsall) who can offer support on identifying funding opportunities and help you to grow a long-term strategic plan
- We can provide small amounts of cash (up to £500) to help you to try something new or test out a new project idea with your local community. Your Creative Adviser can help you to access this support.
