Come and Play Day - CoMA West Midlands Music Group
20 July 2024. Based in the West Midlands? Interested in exploring some new music written by living composers, and meeting local musicians? Come join us for a fun and playful day of music-making, hosted at the University of Birmingham (UoB)!
On the day, participants will form a ‘scratch band’ to play some exciting works from the CoMA Catalogue and new pieces by UoB student composers. The group will be led by composer & conductor Sara Caneva.
All instruments, abilities and levels of experience welcome, although a basic ability to read 5-line stave notation is required.
Schedule
11.00am-1.00pm: Come and play! Sara Caneva will run a warm-up activity followed by a ‘scratch ensemble’ session where we will play excerpts from some fun works in the CoMA Catalogue
1.00-2.00pm: Lunch (not provided)
2.00-4.00pm: A session playing works by student composers
Details of repertoire will be updated nearer the time. Sheet music will be emailed out to participants before the sessions.
This will be our 2nd Come and Play day in Birmingham and part of CoMA’s plans to start a regular ensemble in the West Midlands – so come take part and help the group grow!
Accessibility
The rehearsal studio is on the Ground Floor of the Frankland Building with accessible toilets nearby. Detailed information regarding accessibility to the building can be found here: https://www.accessable.co.uk/university-of-birmingham/access-guides/frankland-building
