Sensory development
Sensory development such as vision, hearing, taste, smell, touch, body and spatial awareness is developed with early interaction with parents by exploring parents / cares faces, textures, tastes, colours, noises and movement environment (eg floor play, soft play services, messy play, outdoor play). A variety of play in early years offering different sensory experiences with positive support is important for all infants and children. Your child maybe known to have difficulties with specific sensory skills requiring specialist services eg vision - ophthalmology, hearing - audiology. Some children do not enjoy different sensory experiences and require some consideration to introduce sensory challenges in a positive way. Advice is available from a number of online resources eg Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Emma’s diary, Dudley Children’s Occupational Therapy Facebook page and “Extra Information / Resources ”Birmingham Community Heathcare Paediatric OT
