Self advocacy

What is Self advocacy ?

Self advocacy is when a person speaks up for themselves and things that are important to them. 

What do we do ?

At Dudley Voices for Choice empowers people with learning disabilities and/or autism to speak up.

Support workers work with members to become more confident and Included in decision making.

Dudley Voices for Choice attends meetings held by different organisations including the local council and health authority.
This helps them to work in an inclusive way.

We are members of the Dudley learning disability 

partnership board and the West Midlands forum.

Employment

Here at Dudley Voices for Choice employ people with learning disabilities and autism.

There role is working in our office doing admin,

They also write the 4Seasons newsletter and edit the DVC and Dudley Learning Disability Partnership Board websites.

We have a planning team meeting and write the agenda’s and minutes.

 

Safe Places Scheme

Safe Places is a scheme for vulnerable people. It gives people a place of safety, if it is needed when out and about in their local community.

Training

We deliver training on learning disability awareness. The programme is 3 hours long and is delivered by our experts. It includes the history of people with a learning disability and personal experiences from the trainers.

It is an interactive training session that makes you consider the many different aspects of living with a learning disability.

Easy Read

Dudley Voices for Choice believe that everyone has the right to information that they can understand.

 As an organisation all of our work is produced in easy read and has pictures to support what is written.

 We put information into easy read for different businesses.

 The work is proof read by people with learning disabilities before it is returned to the business.
